May 28th – Sing Like a Canary, Tweety!

Today’s Kona Cotton color of the day is Canary.

The domesticated canary is a small songbird that originated in Macaronesian Islands and is a member of the Finch family. The most famous canary of all time is Warner Bros. Tweety Bird, and his famous phrase, “I tawt I taw a puddy tat!” I grew up loving that sneaky little canary and despising Sylvester the cat. I never had birds as pets. My mother’s cats would have liked them for breakfast. We had fish (at one point in time), cats and dogs, lived out in the country on dirt roads and bussed into a school 11 miles away around Conesus Lake. Ah, the days of my childhood, when running barefoot all day long and living off of popsicles during the summer were the norm!

So let this next quilt…. get your creative ideas flowing, so your sewing machine can “Sing like a canary!” Canary is a medium yellow, a happy, sunshiny color, not too bright, yet pleasing to the eyes.

There are a lot of complementary colors in this quilt. Yellow/purple, Green/red and Blue/orange. You can never go wrong when you have the trifecta of primary to secondary complementary colors! It’s a rainbow of flavorful quilt-piecing delight!
