November 9th – Cut the Mustard

Today’s Kona color of the day is Mustard.

Mustard has not always been a favorite of mine. Growing up neither of my parents ate mustard, so it was not a condiment in our refrigerator. On the occasional dinner at a fast food restaurant I would order my burger with ketchup only because I really did not like the taste of mustard. When I met my husband, his mom made potato salad every summer and she loaded it with yellow mustard. The first few times she made it I refused to eat it. She finally started taking some out and saving it off to the side for me before adding the mustard. A few years ago I decided to give mustard a try and to my surprise I actually do not mind it on certain things: brats, hot dogs, a hamburger. Now I have to confess that I really only like yellow mustard. I am not into horseradish or other types, but now when I make my potato salad the mustard comes out.

Today’s color is a mix of yellow and gold, but it is a lighter shade. You can see that it works with other yellows such as Meringue, Butter, Sunflower, and Grellow.
