Welcome to Summer!

by Diane Martin

Summer is in full swing here in North Texas. We have had several weeks now of 90+ degree days with the next few days hitting 100 degrees. This is the perfect time to find some place cool and work on a few projects. Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of everyday life I am looking for something quick and easy. Maybe I can even use a bit of my fabric stash. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE new fabric, but if you are looking for a quick, simple project, then we have created one for you. Our June Independence mug rug is the perfect project for Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, or Labor Day…. ANY day you are feeling particularly patriotic! This could even be a great gift for those special people in your life that are in the military, out of the military or military minded.

We have also been working our way through the 2022 Calendar Quilts from Robert Kaufman, using the Kona Cotton solids. I know that I am a little behind, but here is the reveal for May. Sound Wave features Kona White, Iron, Titanium, Graphite, Gotham Grey, Pepper, and Black. I quilted it with Cool Grey 3 Glide thread and used and edge to edge pantograph SKW Giving Tree 006 by Sweet Dreams, which gave it a geometric texture. I am all about black and grey fabric, and I love this quilt.

We are also getting ready to participate in the Texas Christmas Shop Hop. From Denison to Waco, Celeste to Hurst, and many shops in between you will have the chance to collect a free block pattern and/or purchase kits to make a quilt. Pick up a passport from any participating shop and have it stamped at each store when you visit. Turn in your passport at the last shop that you visit for a chance to win 1 of 24 fabulous prize baskets. This is a great way to visit lots of different shops this summer. The Shop Hop runs from July 1st through August 15th. I have participated in several shop hops over the last few years in Oregon and Washington, and I am looking forward to this event. Grab a few quilting buddies, pack some snacks, and hit the road this summer for an adventure.

Until next month,

Kathleen and Diane
