April 14th – Periwinkle Pinwheels

Today’s Kona Cotton color of the day is Brt Peri (Bright Perwinkle). I always thought that Periwinkle was more blue than purple, but this color is a darker purple that will work with just about any other yellow, green, blue or peach. It’s darker than I expected it to be, but that doesn’t bother me one bit.

Some facts about Periwinkle you may not have known (according to Better Homes and Gardens):

  1. Periwinkle is a trailing, ground-covering plant.
  2. It has star like flowers.
  3. It’s genus name is Vinca Minor.
  4. It’s deer resistant and low maintenance.
  5. It attracts birds.
  6. It will grow in shady spots where grass won’t even grow.
  7. It’s pretty tough and can grow in almost any situation, rich soil or poor soil alike.

So if you’re interested in a great, hardy purple, try this awesome color. Here it is in another quilt.
