May 17th – Hibiscus…. Not just a Pretty Flower

Today’s Kona color of the day is Hibiscus.

At this point in the year Kathleen and I are almost half way through with our blog posts on the Kona color’s of the day that we are featuring. Every month or so she calls me to let me know what new colors are arriving in the shop and she divides them up between us. The other day she called (I live in Oregon and she lives in Texas if you are just joining us) and as we were going through the colors we began to realize that I get most of the colors that are named after flowers or vegetation and she gets most of the colors named after foods.

Speaking of foods, a tea can be made from hibiscus flowers and it is served hot or cold. The health benefits include the ability to treat high blood pressure and high cholesterol, as well as hypertension and anxiety. It can be candied and used as a garnish for desserts.

Hibiscus is another one of those colors that I really like in the purple family. It is a deep, dark color, which fits my dark and twisty personality at times.
