Today’s Kona Cotton color of the day is Stone. Stone is a medium color brown with taupe-y undertones. It’s not light, it’s not dark, but is somewhere in the middle.

A few days ago, I talked about a trip when I was a little child to visit my grandmother and we had gone to Lake Champlain in upper New York State. Well, I remember on that same trip that we had crossed over into Vermont and had gone to a stone quarry where we saw slate and other things.

We happen to have a stone fireplace in our living room and it looks kind of similar to what’s in the picture, but not as dark. I have always been fascinated by stones… stones in ponds, stone walkways, stone patios. It has always interested me. Google happens to list 17 types of natural stone.

They are:

  • Sedimentary Rock
  • Metamorphic Rock
  • Granite
  • Limestone
  • Sandstone
  • Marble
  • Slate
  • Quartzite
  • Basalt
  • Quartz
  • Travertine
  • Soapstone
  • Onyx
  • Flagstone
  • Serpentinite
  • Flint

Well, it doesn’t matter what stone you have or like, you should definitely get some of this color today since it’s on sale at 15% off. If you aren’t sure what colors would work well with stone, see what it pairs with in the following quilt.

Aura Quilt Pattern designed by Nydia Kehnle for Robert Kaufman. You can purchase at http://www.nydiakehnle.com

This quilt pattern blends stone with sea glass, petunia, candy green, lingerie, doeskin, prairie sky, ash, ice frappe, roasted pecan, spa blue, dusty peach and more. I love how the arrows in the pattern draw your eyes up. Don’t look down at your feet or the stone beneath, look up and see a quilt project ready to go!
