June 8th – Grasshopper

Today’s Kona Cotton color of the day is Grasshopper. Super green, super bug, super grasshopper. This is a great medium green color that will go really well with some softer colors.

As most of you know, I grew up in the country… so bugs were not uncommon. Not that I liked bugs, mind you, but some bothered me where others didn’t. Grasshoppers did not bother me at all. I found them more than completely fascinating. I approached looking at things in nature with a wide-eyed excitement as a child, but with two glaring exceptions – spiders and snakes. Yeah, that part of nature I felt like I could definitely do without. They have their place in nature and the ecosystem. I just don’t want their microcosm to intersect mine…. like EVER. But now we have an awesome color to remind us how miraculous nature really is. So you can pair this Kona color… or…

You don’t necessarily need to pair colors with other complementary colors to make something look good. Sometimes you can keep it completely analagous – colors next to each other on the color wheel – or with variations of the same color. Check out the quilt below and you’ll see what I mean. It has Kona’s Grasshopper in this quilt built with beautiful greens.

Pick a color, any color from the color wheel and blend all different shades and tints of that color into a quilt. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Then show us your quilts. We’d love to see them.
