September 2nd – Spruce

Today’s Kona Cotton color of the day is Spruce.

Spruce is a dark green reminiscent of the type of evergreen that a Spruce really is. The Spruce, in case you didn’t know, is a spiralling coniferous evergreen tree in the Pinaceae family. There are 35 genus in this family. The Spruce can grow as tall as 200 ft when mature.

Some moth and butterfly species larvae use the Spruce as a food source. Typically, the way to tell this tree apart from others in the pine family is through the needles (leaves).

Check out this really awesome quilt that has Spruce in it.

While the quilt above showcases some very lovely fall colors, here is my take on the fall(ish) colors and especially Spruce.
