Today’s Kona Cotton color of the day is Amethyst.
Amethyst is the birthstone for the month of February. I find it ironic that my granddaughter Shana’s favorite color is purple…. pretty much ANY purple. This is why I made her quilt out of purple (a lighter purple – more lavender). See it below.

Did you know that amethyst is a violet colored quartz? Did you also know that the ancient Greeks wore the stones and carved drinking vessels from it believing that it would be a deterrent for intoxication? Amethyst is actually a silicate, has a hexagonal crystal system and is the most popular purple gemstone, according to geology.com.
Amethyst is a medium to dark purple. It works well with anything in the blue, pink/reds or yellow ranges. It works with blues and pinks/reds because purple is a secondary color made by blending red and blue. And yellows will work with it because it is a complementary color to purple on the color wheel. But here is a quilt for you that you may find enjoyable.

This quilt is roughly 58″ x 72″. It features amethyst, hyacinth, nightfall, midnight, purple, princess, tulip, as well as, blue bell, cloud and cornflower.
