Today’s Kona Cotton color of the day is Artichoke.
I thought about telling a joke or pun regarding artichokes. There are NO GOOD puns for artichokes. They even make DAD jokes super funny. Yes. That’s how bad they are. So we shall skip this venture and move on to the next odd story in my life that I never thought would happen nor would I tell.
I have always been a big believer in eating vegetables. They’re good for you. So of course I encouraged my children to always eat vegetables of some kind. Well, except for the ones I didn’t like…. yes, I’m referring to you, oh dreaded brussel sprout. Miniature catalyst of flatulated air!
When dear daughter number 4 got married, her husband loved to cook and had a lot of influences in his life from his English grandparents. So imagine my surprise when we visited them (they lived in Brooklyn at this time) as they were newlyweds and they served artichokes. Whole artichokes. I sat there for awhile, as they were still serving parts of the meal, trying to figure out how to eat the darn thing. I’d never had an artichoke in my life. Ever. Not cooked. Not raw. Not canned. My parents, much like different types of fish…. never served these things to us.
So after my daughter inquired if I was going to eat for the third time…. I finally leaned over to her and whispered that I didn’t know how to eat it because I had never been served one until now. She laughed, picked up her artichoke slowly and carefully motioned to peel off a “leaf” and squish it between your teeth. Yes, darling. Message received. I’m a good sport.
So today’s color has nothing to do with the vegetable, although the color is pretty close. But what other colors could we pair with it? Let’s find out…shall we?
Isn’t this color palette highlighting Artichoke just fabulous? I just want to break into my Kona colors to match this palette! I already have maybe 2 or 3 quilts I just know these colors would be a fabulous combination in. Now I can’t wait to get back to my studio!
