April 5th – Ruby- There’s No Place Like Home

Today’s Kona color of the day is Ruby. According to Wikipedia, the word ruby comes from the Latin word ruber, which means red. Ruby is also the traditional birthstone for July. The world’s most valuable ruby is the Sunrise Ruby, which is 25.59 carats, and sold for 30.42 million at a Sotheby’s auction in 2015.

When I think of ruby, I think of the magical ruby slippers worn by Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Because of their iconic stature, they are among the most valuable items of film memorabilia. I loved reading this story as a child and always thought it would be wonderful to own a pair of ruby slippers.

Anyway, let’s talk about Kona’s Ruby, which is a fabulous red that can be paired with O. D. Green, Hunter, Coffee, Raffia, Shale, Pale Flesh, and Latte for a stunning quilt that would be fit for royalty. Or you can choose to stay with a more monochromatic color palette and pair it with Cardinal, Crimson, Lipstick, Poppy, Wine, Rich Red, Chili, and Pimento. For me, these options are more affordable and practical than owning a ruby or a pair of ruby slippers.

However it is your lucky day because our Kona Ruby is on sale HERE and it won’t cost you a million bucks.
