April 27th – Chalkboard- The Writing on the Wall

Today’s Kona color of the day is Chalkboard. This is a very fitting post for me as I was an elementary teacher for several years. Call me crazy, but I love chalk and chalkboards. Yes they are messy and by the end of the day I was usually covered in chalk dust, but there is nothing more satisfying than opening a new box of chalk, or cleaning it off so that it is fresh and clean for the next day. I was very sad the year our district purchased Smart boards for our classrooms and it covered about half of my chalkboard. I’m also left-handed, which makes writing on a chalkboard a little bit more difficult than my counter parts, but I learned to adapt and perfect my skills.

I also love black and white quilts. I spent a year or more collecting fat quarter black and white prints to make a Bento Box quilt.

I’m just drawn to the classic, clean colors in this monochromatic quilt, which uses Black, White, Chalkboard, Lighthouse, Pepper, Dove, Overcast, Quicksilver, Gotham Grey and Steel.
