May 21st- Aloha… I Don’t Think It Means What You Think It Means….

Today’s Kona Cotton color of the day is Aloha. This color is a light blue-ish green that invokes the beautiful beaches of the Hawaiian Islands.

So let’s talk about Aloha. The word, not the color… at least not just yet. Most people think that ‘Aloha’ means hello, welcome or goodbye and that is kind of how it is used colloquially. However, according to Wikipedia.org, Aloha means infinitely more. According to the Wikipedia article, Lorrin Andrews, who wrote the first Hawaiian dictionary, Aloha can mean love, affection, peace, compassion and mercy.

Now let’s talk about Aloha, the color. I love this color, but I am REALLY partial to blues and greens as most people are and this color is the perfect light blend between the two. It doesn’t appear to give that heavy or dull look like some colors can. I couldn’t wait to put this into a quilt design. So here it is for your eyes’ hearty appetite for all things quilty!

Aloha Means Love Quilt Pattern by Kathleen Reynolds for Sew Charming Quilts

See what I mean? I paired Aloha with Honeysuckle, Marine, Pink and Pool. When this quilt comes out, hopefully later in the summer, it’ll be perfect to snuggle up with your loved one. It measures out to approximately 97 x 97 a perfect quilt for two…… people, dogs, cats, children…..
