Today’s Kona Cotton color of the day is Dove. Dove is light greyish color with undertones of blue or green. Sometimes it’s hard to tell because the computer screen isn’t always 100% accurate. Of course, looking at the fabric itself makes it much easier. But I don’t have it right in front of me – I wish I did.
I’m currently sitting in my home office writing this post and my fabric is at my studio. I’m okay doing it here though because in the past we’ve had a sweet little family of doves in our little atrium. We’ve lived in the house we currently are in for the past 9 years and about a year after we’d been here, we heard a sweet little cooing sound coming from our little private atrium. It took us awhile to figure out what it was. There was an empty potted plant hanger hanging from the gutter on the far side of the atrium. We never took it down because we always assumed at SOME point in time (you know, when we get around to it), that we would take it down and put some plants in there. Well, Handsome was outside one day and he again heard the cooing sound and when he got close to the planter, the dove flew out and away. He looked in the planter and, sure enough, she had made a little nest in there and there were 3 little eggs. How about that, huh?
Well, when we had moved to this house all that time ago, it was during a distressing time in our lives, right after the housing crash and we had lost our home. So with the move and then discovering this sweet little dove family, it gave us a little hope for the future. Doves have long been a symbol of hope. Over the course of 9 years this dove family, either the mama or her babies have been coming back time and time again to make their little nest in the planter in our atrium. And we happily let them be. It’s nice to know when they’ve moved back in when we hear that distinctive cooing sound. However, for the last year and a half, we have not heard that sweet little sound and I miss them.
Doves are a part of the bird family called Columbidae. So here is my quilt in honor of our fabric color, Dove. Enjoy.
