May 24th – Summer Pear

Today’s Kona color of the day is Summer Pear.

I don’t know if I really have a favorite fruit, because it depends on the time of year and what is in season. I do however love a good pear. According to gardeningknowhow.com the difference between summer pears and winter pears is the time of year that they are harvested. Summer pears are usually ready in July and August. Winter pears are ready in August and September. Summer varieties include Bartlett, Starkrimson, Tosca, Warren, and Honey. Summer pears have a thin skin and are best enjoyed daily or preserved. Now I am hungry for some pears and will be adding them to this week’s grocery list if I can find some in the store.

Kona’s Summer Pear also looks good enough to eat. It is a light green that pairs well with Cactus Key Lime, and Sprout as well as Duckling, Grellow, Canary, and Lemon Ice.
