June 22nd – Ballet Slipper Pirouette

Today’s Kona Cotton color of the day is Ballet Slipper.

I never took Ballet as a kid. It was too expensive and it wasn’t something that I was really interested in. I was interested in dance, but not specifically ballet. And when I was a kid, it was really gymnastics. That was what I loved. But one of my daughters (I have four) loved dance of all kinds and specifically Ballet. She loved it so much that she begged me to get her ballet lessons. But of course at the time, I just couldn’t afford it. So, on her own, she went and found a ballet studio (she was 14 or 15 at the time) that needed some assistants. She asked if she could help them in exchange for ballet lessons. What an entrepreneurial spirit this one has! They agreed and for one year my daughter got ballet lessons for practically free. She enjoyed that year, but after that she moved on to other things. Ah…. that’s the way they say it goes with kids.

The wonderful thing about quilting is that the quilts don’t have to be complicated. They can be as simple as strips of different sizes to create a specific look. Like what there is below.
