September 8th – Baby Blue

Today’s Kona Cotton color of the day is Baby Blue. This light blue is often designated as a color symbol for boys, whereas baby or light pink is the designated color for girls, with yellow, green, white and lavender considered gender neutral.

Well, don’t get me started on colors, but I will say that there are just as many parents that will choose a light or baby blue for a girl’s room just as quickly as for a boy’s, gender not-withstanding. Interestingly enough, most babies were just put in white gowns, regardless of sex. It wasn’t until the early 19th century that light pastel colors were associated with infants and children’s attire, but it was the reverse of what it is today because pink was associated with a stronger color (red), whereas blue was considered light and dainty.

Flip flop that to today and we have blue for boys and pink for girls – and this division of color? Became prominent in the 80’s with newer moms and newer ways.

For ALL genders…. have a delight with the quilt below featuring baby blue.
