November 13th – Lupines in the Wild

Today’s Kona cotton color of the day is Lupine.

While living in Oregon I got to see Lupines along the road if we were driving to the coast. I always wanted to stop the car and pick some, but alas I never did. I am also reminded of the story Miss Rumphius. Miss Rumphius is a picture book for children written and illustrated by Barbara Cooney and first published by Viking Books in 1982. It features the life story of fictional Miss Alice Rumphius, a woman who sought a way to make the world more beautiful and found it in planting lupines in the wild. I read this story to my 2nd graders every year.

Today’s color is a light purple with a pink or mauve undertone. Today’s quilt is Orchid Mega by Ramona Rose. It features several different shades of purples. The center features a 10″ paper pieced square.
