December 24th – Chestnut(s) Roasting on an Open Fire

Today’s color of the day is Chestnut.

I know nothing about chestnuts except from the holiday song. They actually reming me of buckeyes. I also wondered if you could eat a buckeye, and the answer is yes if you remove their shell and roast them, otherwise they are toxic. We always had buckeye trees growing up and would gather them and take them home. Don’t ask me why, I guess it was just something to do. A few years ago my husband stumbled upon a buckeye and he brought it home to me, knowing that I collected them as a child. I though this was a romantic gesture and I keep it in a basket on my kitchen counter.

Today’s color Chestnut is a dark brown. Today’s quilt is Harvest and it is done in shades of browns and reds. This pattern is featured in the 2022 Kona Calendar for the month of March. We are making one quilt a month for the next year, and I am really excited about this one. Stay tuned for more details. We will be offering kits on the website for you to sew along with us.
